San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich unloads on Trump for running the country like ‘a game show’

The San Antonio Spurs lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first NBA playoff game, but coach Gregg Popovich seemed more frustrated by President Donald Trump than by basketball.
While sports is often the place Americans turn for non-political activity, every sport from football to basketball and even tennis has become more and more political in the last few years. Popovich has been an outspoken critic of the new president, but when a reporter asked him how the outside world distracts from work, the coach unloaded.
“There’s a cloud, a pall over the whole country, in a paranoid, surreal sort of way,” Popovich said. “It’s got to do with the way one person conducts himself and it’s embarrassing. It’s dangerous to our institutions and what we all stand for and what we expect this country to be. But for this individual, he’s in a game show.”
According to Good Sports, following the election, Popovich spoke out against those he felt were unwilling to be empathetic and tolerant toward another “group’s situations.”
“I’m a rich white guy, and I’m sick to my stomach thinking about it,” he said. “I can’t imagine being a Muslim right now, or a woman, or an African-American, a Hispanic, a handicapped person. How disenfranchised they might feel. And for anyone in those groups that voted for him, it’s just beyond my comprehension how they ignore all of that. My final conclusion is—my big fear is—we are Rome.”

He's bitter that Accutane and ProActiv came after his teen years.

He needs to worry about GS and how to keep a lead.

He should probably worry about why his team choked a 25 point lead.

“I’m a rich white guy, and I’m sick to my stomach thinking about it,” he said

----------------------------------

bleeding heart white guilt

maybe the GOAT at his profession, but just another idiot in the political arena

what lifts everybody is a growing economy, what destroyed the fabric of the inner city family for generations are government policies like The Great Society. The "War on Poverty" put poverty on steroids, the truth is in the numbers.

Allow me to quote JFK; "A rising tide raises all boats"

Stick to the X's and O's Pop, you know as much about running a country as Meryl Streep or Ashley Judd or Barbar Stweisand or Whoopi or Madonna

It's a great post.

I have no problem with Pop having his views but were I the owner, I would have a major problem with it, particularly when the fan base is in Texas. I realize San Antonio is a little bluer than everywhere but El Paso and Austin in that state but the majority of your fans (Texans and Males) are supporters of the Republican party more than the Democratic party. I would have a problem with it. Just shut up and coach basketball.

Also, i have no doubt in my mind that Trump is brighter than 90% of his critics.

Where was the outrage with Clinton-Bush-Obama and all the shitty things they did? just seems like hunting season on Trump and people are taking what they think are the easy shots.

Were I on his team as a player, I would tell him how stupid he is and to fuck off. Then get banished to Minnesota before being blackballed from the league.

He can coach basketball better than almost anyone in the world, but let's face it ... that doesn't take a ton of brains. Trump's accomplishments dwarf Pop's.

Shame. I have cheered for San Antonio, particularly when they played the rapist from L.A. but now I feel dirty.

Good stuff Willlie.

Trump is running the country the exactly the way it should have been run decades ago.

Those who speak so hatefully against him should be grateful we arent, or don't become, like many countries who punish you for uttering the slightest negative thing about their leader...

I suppose his silly fantasies were in his head as he stood there like a deer in the headlights watching his team blow one of the biggest leads ever in a playoff game...

I like Pop but how he conducts himself on the sidelines during interviews is also embarrassing.

I actually love his disrespect for the media, I disrespect our media as much as anybody, and my favorite coaches of all time are Bill Belichick & Jim Calhoun :)

As condescending as it gets
